What’s happening and when for the Jubilee in Peter Tavy?
Everyone living in Peter Tavy Parish is invited to join us at any or all of the following free events
(donations will be welcome towards expenses). (NB You must book in advance for the walks).
Thursday 2nd June:
9.00pm – COMMUNITY SINGING with the Peter Tavy Sing for Fun Choir – in Church Lane (just below St Peter’s) – with Hot Chocolate – bring a chair (and a blanket?!)
9.45pm – LIGHTING OF THE PLATINUM JUBILEE BEACON – on top of Smeardon Down
Friday 3rd June:
PLATINUM JUBILEE BEATING THE BOUNDS
Following on from the partial Beating of the Bounds (southern section) in September 2021, and in celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee, we plan to beat the northern section of the parish bounds.
There will be a short walk option alongside a challenging longer walk option. Both options will end at Hill Bridge on the Tavy for a barbecue – and a new boundary stone will be set up there

Walk Option 1: Beating the Bounds EASTERN ROUTE. (8km / 5 miles)
Transport to Willsworthy leaves the Village Hall at 1.00pm sharp!
Route: Willsworthy Camp – Wallabrook Head – (between Sharp Tor and Hare Tor) – Deadlake Foot (top end of Tavy Cleave – river crossing here) – Western Red Lake – Lynch Tor – Bagga Tor – Hill Bridge (arriving c.5.30pm). This route is very rough going and includes a crossing of the River Tavy and some steep climbs.
Walk Option 2: Beating the Bounds WESTERN ROUTE. (4.8km / 3 miles)
Transport to Willsworthy leaves the Village Hall at 2.30pm
Route: Willsworthy Camp – Wheal Jewell Reservoir – Horndon Down – Creason – Hill Bridge (arriving c.5.30pm) This route is generally downhill, with some cross-country walking. Accompanied by a tractor!
Saturday 4th June:
PLATINUM JUBILEE PARTY IN THE VILLAGE HALL
For all ages – come and join us at any time from 6.30pm onwards.
Games, dancing to music from throughout the 70 years of the Queen’s reign, pasties and cider / soft drinks – or “BYO”.
(…And we may even try to live screen the “Party at the Palace” on the big screen during the evening!)
Sunday 5th June:
11.30am – COMMUNITY CELEBRATION OF THE QUEEN’S 70 YEAR REIGN – in St Peter’s Church
– including Handbells; Peter Tavy Sing for Fun Choir; Recorder group and more!
12.30pm – “BRING AND SHARE” COMMUNITY LUNCH together at the Methodist Church.
Bring a plate of food to share with your friends and neighbours. (NB: Food can be brought to the Methodist Church before the 11.30 service if you wish.)
If you would like, make and wear a Decorated Hat (perhaps on a Jubilee theme?) for this special lunch.
After lunch, the Parish Council will be presenting Commemorative Mugs to all the under-16 year olds of Peter Tavy parish.
